What We Believe
Cambridge Baptist believes in:
- The true humanity and Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ
- The atonement made on the cross by our Lord for the sin of the world
- The person of the Holy Spirit as the one who sets apart, empowers, and imparts spiritual gifts to the church
- The inspiration of the Bible and its authority in all matters of faith and practice
- Salvation and membership in the church by faith in Christ alone
- Membership of the church for the regenerate
- The immersion of believers as the only scriptural form of baptism
- Cambridge Baptist exists to give glory to God in all that we do (see 1 Corinthians 10:31). To that end, the aim of the Church is to equip God's people for works of ministry and to bring them to maturity in their faith so they can attain to the whole measure and fullness of Christ (see Ephesians 4:11-13) This Church recognises the above through:
- Meeting regularly for worship, prayer, teaching, encouragement and fellowship
- Expressing the love of God to the community through the ministries of the Word and practical care
- Seeking to make disciples of Jesus Christ who share in His Life
- Engaging in the task of mission principally within New Zealand but also overseas. (see Matthew 28 v 19-20)
The Ordinances of the church are:
- Believers' baptism by immersion
- Communion (the Lord's Supper) which is held at least monthly and is open to all believers who are able, and willing, to examine themselves and consider that they can take the sacraments in a worthy manner that honours Jesus Christ (see 1 Corinthians 11:27-29)
